Join fellow graduates to learn about exciting research in diverse subjects from U of T Engineering professors.
\nIn society\, the growing demands placed on individuals a
re becoming increasingly more complex and challenging to handle. However\,
hands-on learning opportunities can help prepare students with the compet
encies required to devise effective solutions to real-world problems.
In January 2022\, the Edward
S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Uni
versity of Toronto\, in collaboration with Professor Sean Hum\, launched a
n exciting new second-year course\, ECE295 – Hardware Design and C
ommunication\, which has students working in teams to design\, bu
ild and test a complete electronic system from scratch.
“Students are involved from the conceptual
and computer-aided design right down to the mounting of components on the
circuit boards\, as well as using a variety of modern test and measurement
equipment and debugging their designs\,” Professor Sean Hum says. “That e
nd-to-end experience isn’t available at other universities — not at the se
cond-year level.” Join us
on April 5 at the Faculty Club to hear Professor Sean Hum share his ratio
nale for implementing this innovative new course in our curriculum and how
it advances student success.
Guests will have an opportunity to network with some of the talented
students from ECE295 and to to view some of the final hardware design prod
ucts created by the students themselves!

At the Praxis II Showcase\, student teams present and demonstrate their designs to stakeholders and the general public. Attendees will be a ble to ask questions and talk to the teams in small group chats.< /p>\n
Read about a previ ous Praxis II Showcase in the U of T Engineering News.
\n< p>Pr axis II is a Year 1 course that allows Engineering Science students to refine and apply their engineering\, design\, and communication skills. T he students are given a single challenge:\nEff ect a verified and validated sustainable improvement in the lived experien ce of a community.
\nFocusing on a community allows students to gain first-hand experience with the issues confronting real groups of peo ple and to engage one-on-one with stakeholders and community representativ es.
\nThe course culminates in the public Praxis II Showcase. At the event\, students share their refined understanding of their opportunity a nd their proposed engineering designs with a wide audience through posters \, prototypes and presentations.
