Professional Experience Year (PEY) Co-op Program

Partway through their undergraduate degree, U of T Engineering students have the option to participate in the Professional Experience Year (PEY) Co-op Program, the largest paid co-op program of its kind in the country. PEY Co-op is a full-time engineering job that lasts 12 to 16 months, giving students enough time to become involved in large-scale projects, build relationships with employers, and reach professional milestones.  PEY Co-op goes far beyond a traditional student work experience program, where jobs usually last just one term — just about the length of a summer job and barely enough time to learn the ropes.

Those who participate in this optional program make industry contacts, gain valuable career skills and significant professional experience before graduation. PEY Co-op also provides a strong practical foundation for individuals who are interested in completing graduate studies. Students register for PEY Co-op in their 2nd or 3rd year of study and complete their positions during the following academic year.  Some of our past out-of-province and international positions have been in Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland, Belgium, Chile, India, Japan, Taiwan, Switzerland, United States, China, Hong Kong, Finland, Singapore and Indonesia.
