Classmates of Ben Mucsi (1T9 PEY Energy Systems) joke that there’s a reason he chose energy as his major—he never seems to run out of it! His involvement in EngSci’s community started as an NSight mentor, helping first year students adjust to university life. He became the Vice President of Finance and Interim Chair of the EngSci Club in 2018. Finally, after participating as a group leader in previous years, he took on the role of Orientation Chair in 2019, coordinating the largest engineering Orientation Week to date with hundreds of leaders collaboratively welcoming nearly 1000 new Engineering students.
An accomplished member of the Varsity fencing team, Ben spent many hours a week training and competing. He shared his passion for athletics as a member of the Engineering Athletic Association as External Director, coordinating field trips for students to try new activities like rock climbing. He then became Tournaments Director, organizing interdisciplinary tournaments and leagues for sports like soccer and basketball. Finally, he became Vice President Administration, helping manage the council to coordinate engineering students’ participation in UofT’s intramural leagues.
Ben also found the time to be sponsorship lead for Blue Sky Solar Racing, attending the 2017 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia. He managed a team of students to organize external events and secure resources for the team, in addition to contributing to the fabrication of the solar racecar.
After graduation, Ben will join management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group in Budapest, Hungary. He is eager to explore this new professional environment and experience a little bit more of the world over the next couple years. In the long-term, he hopes to work in the energy sector, helping address the energy crisis across the globe.
“The community we have here in EngSci is truly special, and I am grateful to everyone for helping me grow so much over the years. To all my friends and classmates, thank you for making my time here so memorable!”
