EngSci alumnus Professor Tom Chau has been awarded the Order of Ontario, the  highest honour bestowed by the province.  Chau is an internationally recognized leader in paedeatric rehabilitation who uses his engineering expertise to create assistive technologies for children with complex disabilities.  Among his creations are tools that allow children with speech-related disabilities to communicate, and the Virtual Music Instrument that allows kids with disabilities to play music.

Chau is a professor at U of T’s Institute for Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering (IBBME) and is the vice-president of research at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.  His work has previously been recognized with the Governor General Meritorious Service Decoration.
