Fourth year EngSci student Jasmine Quigley took home top prize at this year’s Undergraduate Engineering Research Day (UnERD). She presented research she conducted this summer under the supervision of Professor Craig Simmons (MIE, IBBME) on “bioinks”, polymers that can be used to help grow human tissues in the lab.
Other honours went to 4th year student Saima Ali, who placed 2nd in the bioelectrical engineering poster presentations, and third year student Apurv Bharadwaj, who won first prize for his physics poster presentation.
Third year student Sining Qin won the mechanical and industrial engineering poster session for her work under the supervision of EngSci alumna Vicki Komisar (0T9) in the lab of Dr. Alison Novakon (Toronto Rehabilitation Institute). She studied how handrail height affects the speed and accuracy of reach-to-grasp balance reactions in younger and older adults. Read more about the event and the students’ work.
Each year at UnERD about 100 undergraduate students present their work in a conference-like setting and receive feedback from judges, with honours awarded for research posters and presentations.
