Tristan Laidlow (EngSci 1T5)
10:45 AM - 11:45 AM | Friday, Jan. 24 | BA1130
Session will start promptly at 10:45 AM.
In this talk, I will give an overview of my (long and circuitous) path to working as a research scientist at Boston Dynamics. I will share examples and discuss the challenges of my current work on the Atlas project, and share my personal opinion on the current and future state of general purpose robotics.
Speaker bio:
Tristan Laidlow is a Senior Staff Research Scientist on the Atlas project at Boston Dynamics where he enables new robot behaviours using perception algorithms and machine learning. Previously, Tristan was a research fellow in the Dyson Robotics Lab with Prof. Andrew Davison at Imperial College London.
During his PhD, Tristan worked under the supervision of Dr. Stefan Leutenegger on improving the robustness of real-time vision systems using both multi-sensor fusion and deep learning. He completed his bachelor's degree in engineering science at the University of Toronto (EngSci 1T5).
